A few years ago I became intrigued by the idea of juicing for health and weight loss. After doing quite a bit of research on the topic, I decided to give it a try. As it turns out, choosing a juicer was a much bigger decision than I had anticipated.
As I began researching I discovered that there were a lot of different factors to consider, including cost, prep time, juicer type and quality of the juice.
With regard to cost, I have always been of the mindset that you get what you pay for. If you go cheap, you will generally get a cheap piece of equipment that does not give you the quality results you are looking for. There were several inexpensive options for the bullet type of juicer, but every review I read about this option said that the juice was frothy and I knew that I would not be able to get past that to be able to drink the juice.
Next I learned that there are two main types of juicer…centrifugal and masticating. The biggest argument for a centrifugal juicer is the much shorter prep time because you generally don't have to do any cutting of the fruits or vegetables. In many cases you can put them in the juicer whole. With a masticating juicer you generally have a smaller feed tube so you have to spend some time prepping the produce before you can begin juicing it. For me, this one also came down to the froth issue. Every review I read seemed to indicate that there would be much less froth with a masticating juicer.
Finally there was the issue of the quality of the juice. For me, the masticating juicer won this issue as well, not only because of the lesser amount of froth but also because the way that a masticating juicer works gets more of the nutrients from the produce and the lower heat level keeps those nutrients intact.
After reading all of these reviews I decided on the Omega 8003/8005 Nutrition Center Masticating Juicer. I have had it for about 3 years now and I really don't have one single complaint about it. It works great. It's easy to use and super easy to clean. It makes clean juice with essentially no froth and I paid about $300 for it. I am very happy with this purchase and I would recommend this juicer.
